About Becky

Becky moved to the Seattle from the Chicago area in 1994. One day, while working as an administrative assistant in the corporate world, a salesperson sold her a spa package which included a 20-minute back massage. During the treatment, she was amazed at how good and therapeutic it felt and she asked her massage therapist, “How do I learn to do this?” Little did she know then that a simple massage would change her life.

Needing time to truly ponder the commitment of a career change, Becky took her first trip to Europe. Throughout travels to Spain, France, Italy and Greece, massage possibilities continued to work their way into her thinking. Committing to school and leaving the corporate world would be a big change, but it continued to resurface as the best move. A game plan began to develop.

Once home, two ‘musts’ became clear for Becky. One, she needed a job that allowed for more travel time so she could continue to explore the world; and two, she was going to massage school. She quit her corporate job and enrolled in Seattle Massage School in 1995.

Becky’s new career started at a massage clinic during the dot-com boom, with a mixed clientele of computer tech people, teachers and athletes. During this time Becky met her future husband and travel partner, Lyle. In 1998 the new couple decided to go to work in Alaska for a summer to earn money for a three month journey to explore Chile and Argentina. In 1999, after ten months of traveling, they decided to relocate to Bellingham, Washington where Becky built a private practice. Becky moved home to Chicago July of 2010. She is practicing massage at a variety of locations.

Two modalities Becky has studied are Lomi Lomi and Neuromuscular Technique. In 1996 Becky studied Lomi Lomi, ancient traditional Hawaiian massage. This technique uses forearms and elbows and is great for getting into the muscles with deep wide strokes. In 1997 Becky studied Neuromuscular Technique for the spinal muscles. This technique uses tools for the utilization of static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain. It manipulates the soft tissue of the body to balance the central nervous system. In 2010 Becky updated her education in manual lymphatic drainage, pregnancy massage and oncology massage at the Soma Institute of Chicago’s Clinical Massage Therapy Program. She completed classes in nutrition, massage & medical conditions, massage for aging population, and neurology.

Becky Masters became a Certified LaStone Therapist at the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts in 2004.

LaStone Therapy. LaStone Therapy is ninety fabulous minutes of hot and cold stones!

In 2001 Becky began running when she realized her metabolism was slowing down. She worked at running for years before really feeling the enjoyment, or “zen” of running. In 2003 she ran her first half marathon, and knew she could run farther. In 2006 she decided the time had come and she joined Bellingham Fit to help her train for her first full marathon.

In 2007, she ran the Bellingham Bay Marathon - her first full marathon. The next year, she became an assistant coach for Bellingham Fit’s 2008 season and hasn’t looked back. These days she looks forward to the start of each training season and finds a renewed love of running through helping and inspiring other people to achieve their fitness goals!

Becky has been practicing yoga off and on for ten years. In January 2011 she started yoga teacher training with YogaWorks.
